Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan inaugurated the week-long cultural fest Keraleeyam at the Central Stadium here on Wednesday. Among the prominent attendees were business tycoons Yusuff Ali, Ravi Pillai, and celebrities like Kamal Haasan, Mammootty, Mohanlal, Shobana, and Manju Warrier.
Inviting everyone to the grand fest, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan emphasized, “Keraleeyam will provide a fresh impetus to the state’s objective of elevating itself to the standard of living of the developed countries. Keraleeyam is an opportunity for all those proud to be Keralites, to share the happiness and announce it to the world. The week-long event, which kicks off on Kerala Piravi Day, will be an annual affair, marking the achievements of that year.”
Notably, the event saw the absence of Opposition leaders, with Leader of Opposition VD Satheesan criticizing the government’s expenditure on the program amidst financial challenges.
Keraleeyam is a week-long festival organized by the Kerala government to showcase the state’s progress, achievements, and cultural heritage. It will feature seminars, activities, exhibitions, fairs, festivals, and shows in more than 40 venues, open to the public from 10 am to 10 pm. Seminars, a key attraction, will begin at 9.30 am, and art programs will kick off with a performance by actor and danseuse Shobhana at 6.30 pm.
Stringent security measures are in place, with over 1,000 police officers deployed at various venues and surveillance intensified to ensure safety, particularly for women and children. Traffic restrictions will be imposed during specific hours, and shuttle buses are arranged for convenient travel.
The festival includes 42 exhibition centers along the stretch from East Fort to Kowdiar, featuring art, cultural, industrial, and agricultural fairs. It encompasses 25 exhibitions, over 400 cultural programs, 11 food fairs, six flower shows, a film book fair, a trade fair, a film festival, and a book exhibition.
An eight-kilometer stretch has been beautifully illuminated, and 25 seminars will delve into Kerala’s development and contemporary issues throughout the week.
In a unique publicity stunt, spray-painted tigers paraded through the city to announce the arrival of Keraleeyam, entertaining crowds at various locations. Various programs and performances will take place at different venues, providing a diverse and vibrant experience for visitors.
