The Central Railway Board, on November 1, issued a letter to the Southern Railway, urging prompt discussions with the Kerala Rail Development Corporation Limited (KRDCL) regarding the Rs-64,000-crore K-Rail project. The Railway Board emphasized the need for the Southern Railway to swiftly provide comprehensive feedback on the project.
Notably, this marks the second letter the Board has sent to the Southern Railway within a month, instructing them to engage with KRDCL concerning the semi high-speed project. The initial letter was dispatched on October 10, with a similar request for the Southern Railway’s input on the project. The Southern Railway submitted their comments to the Board on October 21. These comments reportedly highlighted the longstanding concerns of the Railways, particularly related to how the K-Rail alignment would intersect with the existing railway network and other associated issues.
Now, the Railway Board is urging the Southern Railway to reconvene discussions with KRDCL officials to address the matters related to the semi high-speed corridor. It’s worth noting that in April of the previous year, the Board had expressed dissatisfaction with K-Rail’s delay in providing crucial information about railway land in Kerala, even two years after the submission of the Detailed Project Report (DPR), which had been delivered on June 24, 2020. This ongoing dialogue reflects the Railway Board’s interest in progressing the K-Rail project while addressing various logistical and operational concerns.
