The National Investigation Agency (NIA) carried out a series of nationwide raids on Wednesday, with the primary objective of apprehending individuals involved in human trafficking. As a result, they detained an individual from Myanmar in the Jammu region, as confirmed by officials. These coordinated raids spanned across eight states and two Union Territories, all related to cases of human trafficking, according to an NIA spokesperson. The search operations were conducted in the states of Tripura, Assam, West Bengal, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Haryana, and Rajasthan, along with the Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Puducherry.

During one of these raids in Jammu and Kashmir, a Rohingya Muslim from Myanmar named Zaffar Alam was taken into custody. This action occurred at his temporary residence in the Bathindi area of Jammu, and it transpired at around 2 am. Notably, another accused individual remains at large, as reported by an official from Jammu. It’s important to highlight that these raids were specifically focused on slum areas that house immigrants from Myanmar. They were conducted in connection with a case related to the violation of the Passports Act and human trafficking, as clarified by the official based in Jammu. This large-scale operation represents a significant effort by the NIA to combat human trafficking and related offenses across multiple regions in India.
