ICC WORLD CUP FINAL : Cummins Aims to Hush the Crowd

Pat Cummins, the Australia captain, walked into the press conference room seemingly contemplating how to quiet a fervent crowd during the World Cup final against India. Recognizing the challenge posed not only by India’s formidable team but also the passionate Indian fans, Cummins emphasized the need to embrace the one-sided atmosphere.

In preparation for the final at the 130,000-capacity Narendra Modi Stadium, Cummins acknowledged the overwhelmingly pro-India crowd. Despite the potential distractions, he expressed satisfaction in silencing such a crowd, stating, “The crowd’s obviously going to be very one-sided, but in sport, there’s nothing more satisfying than hearing a big crowd go silent, and that’s the aim for us tomorrow.”

Reflecting on Australia’s journey to the final, Cummins highlighted the team’s resilience after an initial defeat to India. With eight consecutive victories, they earned a spot in the final against an undefeated Indian side. Cummins acknowledged the challenge ahead, saying, “We know it’s going to be a packed house. There’s going to be 130,000 fans here supporting India. So it’s going to be awesome.”

Anticipating the pivotal role of Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood in the final, Cummins emphasized their impact, particularly in the semifinal victory against South Africa. He emphasized their experience in ICC finals and their ability to perform under pressure.

While recognizing that Australia hasn’t played a “complete game” in the tournament, Cummins expressed confidence in their ability to challenge any team. He noted, “I’m taking that confidence, knowing that we don’t have to be at our absolute best to challenge any team; we can find a way through it.”
