Polytechnic college student assaulted by seniors in Kerala

The Neyyattinkara police in Kerala have initiated a case against 20 students from Government Polytechnic College, Neyyattinkara, on charges of ragging and physically assaulting a first-year student within a classroom. The victim, identified as G Anoop, a first-year instrumentation student from Chenkal, was allegedly subjected to brutal assault during a lunch break on Tuesday. Following a complaint from Anoop, the college principal suspended four of the accused students, namely Ebin, Adityan, Anandu, and Kiran, all of whom are activists associated with the Students’ Federation of India (SFI).

Anoop, who sustained injuries to his head, abdomen, and genitals, received primary treatment at Neyyattinkara General Hospital and is currently undergoing further treatment at an ayurveda hospital. The police, acting on the principal’s complaint, registered a case of ragging and simple hurt. Hospital sources report that Anoop’s condition is now stable. There are indications that relatives of the accused students are applying pressure on Anoop’s parents to withdraw the complaint.

Despite the involvement of SFI activists, the police have ruled out the influence of student union politics in the incident. Neyyattinkara sub-inspector of police, R Sajeev, stated that the accused students would be summoned to the police station for statements, and further actions would be taken in accordance with the recorded statements.
