Know how to upgrade to Windows 11 from Windows 10 in 5 simple steps

Mumbai: International tech giant, Microsoft earlier announced that it will stop releasing updates and security fixes for the Windows 10 operating system. Windows 10 will not receive any major updates, only security patches and bug fixes. But those will also stop by October 14, 2025.  Microsoft launched its Windows 10 22H2 last year.

Here is a complete guide on how you can update to Windows 11 from Windows 10:

Here are all the requirements you need to check list to upgrade your system to Windows:

Windows 11 upgrade requirements

Windows 11 needs a 64-bit processor or SoC with two or more cores and a speed of 1 GHz or more.

Windows 11 needs at least 4 GB of memory and 64 GB of disk space.

Windows 11 needs a UEFI system firmware with Secure Boot enabled and a TPM version 2.0 chip.

Windows 11 needs a graphics card that supports DirectX 12 or later with WDDM 2.0 driver.

Windows 11 needs a display that is at least 9 inches diagonally, has a resolution of 720p or higher, and has 8 bits per colour channel.

Windows 11 Home edition and some features need an internet connection and a Microsoft account.

How to upgrade to Windows 11:

Check if your PC meets the minimum system requirements for Windows 11 using the PC Health Check app. You need a compatible processor, memory, storage, firmware, TPM, graphics card, display resolution, and internet connection.

Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and click Check for updates. If the Windows 11 update is available, you will see a message saying ‘Upgrade to Windows 11 is ready-and it’s free!’

Click Download and install and wait for the update to finish downloading and preparing.

Read and accept the Software License Terms and click Accept and install.

Restart your PC when prompted and sign in to your Windows account.

Notably, to install Windows 11, you need a compatible PC or laptop. If your device meets the requirements, you can download and install the upgrade when it is available.

If you don’t see the upgrade option, you can use the Windows Media Creation tool from Microsoft website to install Windows 11 manually. To do so:

Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the installation. You may need to restart your device several times during the process.

Alternatively, you can also use the tool to create a USB flash drive or DVD with Windows 11 installation media and use it to install Windows 11 on another device. To do that, you need to:

Download the Windows 11 Installation Media tool from Microsoft website.

Run the tool and choose to create installation media for another PC. Prepare a blank USB or DVD with 8 GB of space.

Select the language, edition, and architecture of Windows 11. The tool will create the installation media.

Boot from the USB or DVD on the device you want to install Windows 11 on. Change the boot order in BIOS if needed.

Complete the installation and activate Windows 11 with a product key or a digital licence.

Note: If your device is not compatible, you may need to update your hardware or get a new device that supports Windows 11.
