China builds the world’s first ‘near-space command’ equipped with deadly hypersonic weapons

China has reportedly established the world’s first ‘near-space command,’ equipped with deadly hypersonic weapons, according to a report by Hong Kong’s SCMP. This new force will serve as the People’s Liberation Army’s fifth branch, alongside the existing Army, Navy, Air Force, and Rocket Force. While the exact establishment date remains unclear, it is believed to be in the developmental stage.

The near-space command is seen as a response to the growing belief that space will be the next battleground, and China aims to gain a competitive advantage in this domain. The force will employ modern hypersonic missiles designed to target critical military assets, enabling “merciless” attacks on vital targets. Additionally, the near-space command will conduct high-altitude surveillance worldwide through automated drones and spy balloons.

Chinese researchers emphasize the strategic importance of near-space, describing it as a contested zone crucial to determining the outcome of future battles. However, they acknowledge that this advanced command also poses diplomatic challenges on the international stage, potentially attracting hostility and scrutiny from major players such as the US, EU, India, and Russia.

The near-space command will reportedly include a significant number of spy balloons, solar-powered drones, and supporting equipment. These assets, alongside hypersonic weapons, are expected to provide China with the ability to strike any target on Earth at high speed. The researchers suggest that the command’s effectiveness will hinge on innovative strategies and combat tactics based on a thorough analysis of the enemy’s weaknesses.

The new space command’s primary objective is to enhance China’s chances of success in the event of a war. It aims to target enemy rocket launch sites to disrupt their ability to fire anti-satellite missiles at China’s satellite networks. The command will operate in the ‘near-space’ area, starting at an altitude of about 20 km and reaching the lower boundary of space at 100 km from Earth, where hypersonic weapons can operate effectively. The success of the near-space force will rely on innovative strategies, combat tactics, and in-depth analysis of the enemy’s weaknesses.
