Dehradun expressway to decrease distance and travel duration

The Delhi-Dehradun Expressway, slated to be operational in March, will significantly reduce the distance between the two cities from the current 235 km to 213 km, resulting in a shorter travel time. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has taken a step to preserve wildlife by maintaining the existing roadway for their unrestricted movement, as per government directives.

Costing approximately Rs 11,970 crore, the expressway is designed for a minimum speed of 100 km per hour. The NHAI project director for Uttarakhand, Pankaj Maurya, highlighted the positive economic impact of the Delhi-Saharanpur-Dehradun economic corridor, estimating the journey duration to be a little over two and a half hours. The corridor project encompasses infrastructure elements such as road over bridges, vehicle underpasses, service roads in populated areas, elevated portions, and entry-exit points.

According to NHAI sources, the corridor commences at DMI near Akshardham Temple in Delhi, connecting various locations such as Shastri Park, Khajurikhas, Mandola, Khekra, Baghpat, Shamli, Muzaffarnagar, Saharanpur, Chutmalpur, Ganeshpur, Mohand, Daat Ki Devi Tunnel, and concludes at Asarodi Dehradun via existing National Highways 344 and 307.
