Mumbai: Benchmark indices ended lower on December 20. At close, BSE Sensex was down 930.88 points or 1.30% at 70,506.31. NSE Nifty ended at 21,150.20, was down 302.90 points or 1.41%.
About 577 shares advanced, 2721 shares declined, and 57 shares remained unchanged. Top gainers were ONGC, Tata Consumer Products, Britannia Industries and HDFC Bank. Top losers were Adani Ports, Adani Enterprises, UPL, Tata Steel and Coal India.

All the sectoral indices ended lower, with auto, capital goods, metal, pharma, oil & gas, power and realty down 2-4%. BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices declined more than 3% each.The Indian Volatility Index (India VIX) closed up by 4.20 %.
