The family of Tristan Sherry, a suspected gunman who attempted to kill a father and son on Christmas Eve in Dublin, has launched a GoFundMe page to cover his funeral costs. Sherry was stabbed to death in the aftermath of the attack he carried out at Browne’s steakhouse in Blanchardstown, west Dublin. The intended target, Jason Hennessy Snr, was shot in the neck by Sherry, who reportedly barged into the restaurant, which was filled with families at the time.
However, Sherry was overpowered by patrons and received up to 30 stab wounds, ultimately leading to his death. Videos from the incident posted on social media show Sherry lying in the street covered in blood, as a restaurant patron hits him over the head with a chair. Police believe the motive for the shooting is an ongoing feud between drug gangs in Corduff, Blanchardstown, and Finglas in north Dublin. Sherry’s death has raised concerns about a potential all-out war between the two factions, prompting police to urge the public not to share videos of the incident.
In response to Sherry’s death, his mother, Marey Hand, set up a GoFundMe fundraiser to cover his funeral costs, aiming to collect €7,000 (approximately $7,733.95). Hand, in her fundraising appeal, identified herself as Tristan Sherry’s mother and expressed heartbreak over his murder, describing him as well-known for his love of motorcycles and loved by many. The fundraiser had received 35 donations totaling €620 (around $685) at the time of reporting.
