Fatal Bus-Truck Collision ;Three killed, 40 Injured

Tragic Collision on Cuttack-Chandabali Highway Claims Three Lives and Injures 40
A head-on collision between a private bus and a truck on the Cuttack-Chandabali state highway in Cuttack district resulted in the death of three individuals, including a woman, while 40 others sustained injuries. The accident occurred near Kalapola under Nischintakoili police limits. The deceased were identified as Anasuya Barik (21), Nalinikant Moharana (22), and truck driver Sk Sabir (45). The bus driver is in critical condition. The injured passengers were promptly taken to Nischintakoili Community Health Centre (CHC), with seven of them later shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital as their conditions worsened.

The mishap unfolded around 7:20 am when the bus, en route from Chandabali to Cuttack, collided with a speeding 14-wheeler empty truck coming from the opposite direction. Fire Services personnel, upon receiving the information, rushed to the scene, recovered the bodies, and rescued trapped passengers from the badly mangled bus using a gas cutter. While the exact cause of the accident is yet to be determined, poor visibility due to dense fog is suspected to be a contributing factor. A case has been registered, and investigations are underway.

In response to the tragedy, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik expressed sorrow and announced an ex-gratia of Rs 3 lakh for each deceased family. He instructed the district authorities to ensure the injured receive the best possible treatment free of cost, extending his wishes for their speedy recovery.
