11 districts under yellow alert due to rising temperatures: IMD

IMD has issued a high-temperature warning across the state, with a yellow alert in 11 districts excluding Thiruvananthapuram, Idukki, and Wayanad. The mercury is expected to soar up to 40 degrees Celsius in Palakkad and Thrissur, while Ernakulam, Kannur, and Kozhikode districts may see temperatures reaching 38 degrees Celsius. Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, and Kasaragod are likely to experience temperatures of up to 37 degrees Celsius.

Amidst the scorching heat, precautions are advised, including avoiding direct exposure to sunlight between 11 am and 3 pm, staying hydrated by drinking plenty of water, wearing loose and light-colored clothing, and using umbrellas or hats when outdoors. Additionally, consuming fruits and vegetables, avoiding alcoholic and caffeinated beverages, and ensuring fire safety precautions are also recommended.

Special attention should be given to students, with educational institutions ensuring access to clean drinking water and adequate ventilation in classrooms. Parents and school authorities are advised to avoid outdoor activities during peak sunlight hours and to provide shade and water for animals and birds. Moreover, citizens are urged to heed official warnings from the Meteorological Department and Disaster Management Authority to stay safe during the heatwave.
