PM Modi Unveils Healthcare Projects Worth ?12,850 Crore

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated a series of healthcare projects valued at around ?12,850 crore, significantly enhancing India’s health infrastructure. Among the initiatives, he launched a new health insurance scheme specifically for senior citizens over 70 years old, fulfilling a BJP campaign pledge. Named the “Ayushman Vaya Vandana Card,” the scheme provides free hospital treatment to elderly citizens without any income restrictions, potentially benefiting 40 lakh senior citizens in Bihar alone and adding momentum to BJP’s support ahead of upcoming state elections in Maharashtra, Jharkhand, Delhi, and Bihar.

Highlighting additional advancements, Modi announced the establishment of four Ayush Centers of Excellence and improvements to health services, including the use of drones for medical deliveries and expanded facilities at several AIIMS locations, including Rishikesh, New Delhi, and Bilaspur. He also underscored affordable healthcare initiatives, citing over 14,000 Jan Aushadhi Kendras that offer essential medicines at up to 80% discounts and the Mission Indradhanush immunization drive. Modi noted that nearly 1 lakh new MBBS and MD seats have been created in the last decade, with a target of adding another 75,000 seats within five years.

Supporting the Make in India movement, the Prime Minister inaugurated five medical manufacturing projects under the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme, aiming to boost domestic production of advanced medical devices and essential pharmaceuticals. These new units, located in states such as Gujarat, Telangana, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Himachal Pradesh, will manufacture critical equipment like body implants and devices essential for intensive care, reinforcing India’s self-reliance in healthcare technology.
