Premature Ejaculation: Treatments and Causes
Premature ejaculation is a form of sexual dysfunction that can adversely affect the quality of a man’s sex life. It is when an orgasm or “climax” occurs sooner than wanted.
There may occasionally be complication with reproduction, but premature ejaculation (PE) can also adversely affect sexual satisfaction, both for men and their partners.
In recent years, the recognition and understanding of male sexual dysfunction has improved, and there is a better understanding of the problems that can result from it.
Here are some key points about premature ejaculation.
In the majority of cases, an inability to control ejaculation is rarely due to a medical condition, although doctors will need to rule this out.
PE can lead to secondary symptoms such as distress, embarrassment, anxiety, and depression.
Treatment options range from reassurance from a doctor that the problem might improve in time, through to home methods of “training” the timing of ejaculation.
Average ejaculation time:
An average guy lasts somewhere about six minutes in intercourse. An average man in America lasts 13 minutes, in Europe 10 minutes, in Germany 7 minutes and it drops even further in India.
Long penises bad for endurance:
The endurance of the species or the human race, that is. A long, pornstar-like penis may actually be bad for copulating more, said Dr Brian Steixner, Institute of Men’s Health, Atlantic City. This is because when men last less, the chances of more kids are better. More offspring means more endurance for the human race.
PE most common sexual dysfunction in men:
Dr Steixner said that PE is by far the most common sexual dysfunction in men that he has seen in his practice. It is also the most tragic because it can very easily escalate to erectile dysfunction and can get difficult to treat. This happens because men’s expectations about their performance is impossible, he said.
Are you really ejaculating prematurely?
Doctors say that most often they have to struggle to explain to men that they are not suffering from premature ejaculation. The serious and pathological cases in which the men cannot last for more than a minute are merely one per cent of the total cases they come across!
Ejaculating early may actually be healthy:
Dr Steixner said that he comes across many patients who want to be ‘cured’ desperately. He tries to explain to such men that their conditions are absolutely normal and if anything, they are superior evolution wise. But because this does not solve much, he has to offer them treatment.
PE treatment:
Kegel exercise is something that men do not prefer because they mostly want a quick fix, complained Dr Steixner. The other ways to ‘cure’ PE is through sprays or inhibitors that numb sensation or even surgery that cuts the nerves on the man’s penis, which helps in reducing sensation.
But, do you really need a treatment?
Performing long is only a socially constructed expectation and the best way to ‘cure’ yourself is to realize this. You must understand that ejaculating is a nervous process which is largely beyond your voluntary control. No man or his partner should compare their performance to what they see in porn movies. That’s unrealistic. Also, indulge in more foreplay and focus on other areas besides only penetration as less focus on penis will reduce anxiety and can lead to better performance.
