The solutions for the most complex problems are often very simple. Devi Prasad Shetty, an Indian cardiac surgeon, and entrepreneur has a lot of wisdom to share, that might just be what India needs at the moment.

In a programme organized by Indian Express, Devi Prasad spoke about the issues plaguing the Indian medical system and opened a fresh perspective on how the solutions are already existing around us. His insights about what to be done to curb the infant mortality rate in India is something that the lawmaking body should listen to. Watch the video here:

Devi Shetty speaks about the contrast in budgets required to build a medical college in Indian and U.S. He says in India, about 400 Crores is required to build a Medical College while in Carribean, the medical college functions on a rented 50000 square feet building, and produces fantastic doctors for U.S.

He says with limited seats and a high investment, the profession of doctor has become an elitist affair. Because of this, we have not been able to produce enough doctors or radiologists etc, to cover up the huge population. Also with this being an affair for only the economically well to do, not very often we will have doctors hailing from rural background and the pregnant woman in rural areas suffer.  He explains with numbers how we don’t have an adequate number of pediatricians, radiologists etc and that needs of a huge population cannot be catered.

One can only hope more people listen to him and bring a change in the right direction.
