50 persons fall ill after consuming food snacks

More than 50 individuals in Maharashtra’s Nagpur district experienced food poisoning after consuming snacks and other items during the Mahashivratri festival, officials reported on Sunday. The affected individuals, hailing from Kamptee and various areas of Nagpur city, had observed fasts during the festival. However, after consuming farali snacks purchased from shops and roadside stalls in Kamptee, many complained of gastrointestinal issues such as upset stomachs, vomiting, and abdominal pain.

Additionally, in Ganesh Nagar, seven members of a family fell ill after consuming jalebis and other sweets made from water chestnut flour, while a cloth trader from Nanga Putla area and individuals from other areas also suffered food poisoning after consuming prasad and other meals on the same day. The affected individuals received medical treatment in various hospitals and were mostly discharged on Saturday. Deputy Commissioner of Police Niketan Kadam stated that food samples from Kamptee shops have been collected for analysis by the Food and Drug Administration to determine the cause of the food poisoning.
