Confused as who Sindhi are?
Sindhis are an Indo-Aryan ethno-linguistic group who speak the Sindhi language and are native to the Sindh province of Pakistan, which was previously a part of pre-partition British India. Today, Sindhis are both in India and Pakistan.
Now let’s check out one of their breakfast recipes.
Dal Pakwan
Dal Pakwan is one of the most famous Sindhi breakfast recipes. Dal Pakwan is, chana dal served with crisp fried Indian bread(Pakwan). It is usually taken for breakfast but you can have this as a snack, as a brunch, as a lunch or a light dinner too.

Ingredients
For Pakwan (Makes 20 Pakwan)
1 cup For Pakwan (Makes 20 Pakwan)
1 cup Whole Wheat flour
Salt to taste
1 tsp Ajwain (Carom seeds)
1 tbsp Oil
1 cup Water or as needed
For Dal (Serves 3 to 4 People)
1 cup Chana Dal
3 cup Water
Salt to taste
1/2 tbsp Chili powder
1 tsp Garam masala
1/4 tsp Turmeric powder
1/2 tsp Black Pepper powder
1 tsp Cumin seeds
Other Ingredients
Sweet chutney
Mint and coriander chutney
Garlic chutney
Fine Sev
Finely chopped onion

Instructions
For Pakwan
Take Whole wheat flour and sooji in a big mixing bowl. Add salt, ajwain, and oil. Mix them very well. Add water and knead a semi-smooth dough. Cover it and keep it aside for 15 to 20 minutes.
Apply some oil and Knead it again. Divide the dough into 20 equal parts.
Take one ball, roll it like chapathi / roti. The pakwan should be thin like roti(Not very thin). Prick with a fork.
Heat oil in a pan for frying. Fry Pakwan on a medium heat until light golden brown from both the sides. Do the same process with all the remaining balls. Pakwan is ready. keep it aside.
For Dal
Wash the dal and soak it for 30 minutes. Drain the water.
In a pressure cooker, heat oil. Add Cumin seeds. Let it splutter. Add Chana dal.
Add salt, chili powder, turmeric powder, garam masala and pepper powder. Add water. Mix them well. Cover it.
Pressure cook it for 4 to 5 whistles. The dal should be cooked yet separated.
Let the pressure cooker cools down. Open it and check the consistency. Adjust the dal consistency according to your preference.
Let’s serve this yummy Dal Pakwan (you can serve as you like).
Take Pakwan in a plate. Add dal, sweet chutney, coriander chutney, garlic chutney, sprinkle onion and sev.
Another way of serving is, Take a dal into a bowl, add three chutneys, sprinkle sev and onion and serve it with Pakwan.
Dal Pakwan is ready. Eat it immediately. Enjoy.
