Combat post-meal sugar cravings with these effective strategies.

Experiencing sugar cravings post-meal may hinder weight loss efforts. Nutrition expert Neha Ranglani sheds light on the phenomenon, stating, “We can experience sugar cravings when there is insufficient food intake during the daytime. On such occasions, a hormone related to hunger named ghrelin acts and we feel like having a sweet. Reasons for such cravings could be physical or psychological.”

According to Neha, the body might signal a need for sweet dishes for energy required in the digestive process after a meal. Regular dessert intake as a habit and an imbalance in daily micronutrient intake could also trigger sweet cravings. Stress and inadequate sleep are additional contributors.

Neha suggests remedies, including identifying the cause, ensuring proper rest, sleep, and staying hydrated. She advises that enjoying a dessert after a meal isn’t always bad unless it induces sleepiness. Combat sleep cravings by engaging in activities like walking or listening to music.

For those feeling energetic post-sweets, opt for healthier choices like dark chocolate, bliss balls, nuts, or peanut candy. As an alternative to sweets, consider lavender tea for relief from mental stress or headaches. Experts deem lavender tea healthy, but consult with a health professional before trying. Lavender tea bags are available in markets and online stores, simply boil water and steep the tea bags for 10 minutes before drinking.
